An in-universe social network for roleplayers. You sign in to an out-of-character account, step into one of your characters, and the whole site behaves as if that character is your only identity. Sign up and create a character to get started.

What is this?

SaphireSocial is a stage for characters. Feeds, messages, money, businesses and events all exist in-fiction, so your characters can live full lives online: post drama, run shops, pay debts, throw parties and message rivals. Underneath it all sits a normal, private account that other users never see. It is built with VR roleplay in mind, with an events API your VRChat OSC can listen to.

Getting started

  1. Register an account with your email and confirm it. This account is out-of-character and stays private.
  2. Create your first character from the dashboard: a handle, profile and wallet.
  3. Enter the character session. From here on, the site is what that character sees: their feed, their inbox, their wallet.
  4. Everything is in-character to keep you in the mind of the character.
  5. To play someone else, return to the dashboard and switch.

Characters and sessions

  • One account, many characters. Each character has its own profile, posts, followers, messages, wallet and notifications.
  • Hard sessions. While you are in a character, nothing from your other characters is reachable. There is no way to act as the wrong character by accident.
  • Profiles. Bio, device tag, pinned post, follower counts and wallet stats.
  • Real-time Messaging. Send messages in-character to other characters.
  • Retiring. A character can be retired from the dashboard: hidden from use but with all their posts preserved. It is reversible.

Extra Features

  • Designed for use in VR. Different themes to choose from, and easy to navigate UI that's friendly for using through an overlay.
  • In-character time settings. The app defaults to ZST, a universal time for all roleplayers, which is pinned to US Eastern Standard Time. Other options available in the settings.
  • OOC toggle for out-of-character messages. If you prefer to stay fully in character, the button can be hidden in Settings.
  • IC time offset for messages. Messages can be backdated, or forward dated for the purposes of roleplay. This does not change the order of a message, as that is always preserved.
  • Wallet for characters. Every character has a wallet of fictional currency, and you set the amount you have. Pick the label that fits your character: Credits, Gold, Crystals and more, all 1:1.
  • Setup automatic payments to simulate your character's income or bills.
  • Received payments can be reversed ("marked as fraud") to prevent trolling, or if you think a payment doesn't make rp sense. You can also report it to the moderators.
  • Wallet money has no real-world value and cannot be traded for real money. You have full control to decide how much you have at any time. See the Terms of Service.
  • Business Directory. Advertise your business and services. Every character can publish one listing: name, pitch, tags and an image. Browse it to find your next fixer, mechanic, bar or bounty hunter, and leave a "Rec" for the ones that you like.

The API

Every notification is also an event you can consume through the public API. The intended use: your character gets a DM, and your own VRChat OSC tooling (an overlay, a beep, a SubLink setup) picks it up and reacts. Companion apps and OSC bridges are community built against the documented contract, with tokens you create and revoke from your dashboard. Allows technically minded users to receive messages through OSC on their avatars.

Privacy and conduct

Out-of-character details (your email, linked accounts) are never shown on in-character surfaces. Direct messages are private from other users; moderators may read reported messages. Every such access is logged. See the privacy notes for the full picture, and the Terms of Service for the rules everyone plays by.

Contact

Questions, bug reports, appeals against a moderator decision, or anything else that needs a human: email [email protected]. This reaches the site admins out-of-character, so write as yourself rather than as a character. If you are reporting a bug, say what you were doing and roughly when, and include the character handle involved if there is one.

Reports about a specific post, message or listing are usually faster through the in-app report button, which sends them straight to the moderation queue with the content attached. Use email for account problems, such as losing access to the address you registered with.
