Fuel for the Furnace: VestraTech’s Penal Battalions
As the conflict with the Upper City consumes more lives by the hour and the power vacuum in the Waterfront District deepens, VestraTech has chosen a dark and ruthless path to preserve its interests. To replenish its dwindling frontlines, the corporation has turned to the district's penal system, funneling inmates directly into the meat grinder. Under the banner of wartime emergency, VestraTech has begun conscripting these prisoners into hastily assembled penal battalions. Sent into the highest-intensity kill zones with bare-minimum equipment and outdated weaponry, these units are deployed not as strategic soldiers, but as disposable buffer forces meant to absorb Upper City artillery and mech fire.
Terrorists and Serial Killers or Unlucky Draftees?
VestraTech maintains that these battalions are strictly comprised of the city's most violent offenders and convicted terrorists paying their debt to society; however, among the residents of the Waterfront, a chilling uncertainty has taken root, as concerns rise surrounding the usage of prisoners in wartime efforts. The city’s primary maximum-security prison was located in the Guardian district, an area that was almost entirely wiped off the map following the detonation of half a dozen nuclear devices not quite two months prior. With the Guardian district largely reduced to a radioactive crater, locals are left questioning the math: just how many "extremely violent prisoners" could possibly be left in the system to fill these endless ranks, and even if any remain, for how long will they last?
"Guardian's been a glowing crater since June, and all the real heavies burned up with it. So you tell me who Vestra's putting in those uniforms, because they sure ain't pulling them out of a prison that doesn't exist anymore."
This logistical impossibility has sparked horrifying rumors. In Zaphira, the threshold for being labeled a threat by corporate authorities has always been notoriously ambiguous. Many fear that the definition of "terrorist" has been quietly expanded to meet VestraTech's needs. Whispers on the street suggest that petty criminals, vocal dissidents, or even civilians may be swept up into the ongoing war efforts for minor infractions, like missing a tax payment or being caught in a security sweep.
"My cousin got tagged for dodging a security checkpoint last month. Next thing we know, he’s slapped with a 'subversive action' charge. Who knows how far these corpos will take something like that! We don't want to see him end up dead over something so stupid.
Whether these conscripts are truly hardened criminals or simply unlucky residents caught in a corporate dragnet, their fate remains the same. Reports from the edge of the Upper City offensive indicate that VestraTech treats these battalions as completely expendable. When a unit is predictably wiped out, there are no search efforts, no grief, and no tactical retreat; VestraTech simply clears the roster and cycles in the next wave. To the corporate boardrooms, these men and women are not citizens fighting for the city's survival; they are merely low-cost fuel keeping the war machine running. Plane happening update. Sold the two FA-18’s. I know, hard to part with them but they weren’t made for solo use. Very hard to get any parts for them without third parties and even harder to maintenance and launch independent of a support system. So instead got us two F16V’s. The first ever jet I ever flew, and a sweetheart to me. First ever jet I ran sorties with, crashed into the ground a lot more than I think I did, and defended my home planet with when my earth was destroyed. Tons of parts for cheap on this thing too. These base versions aren’t upgraded cause I need to set them up to work with all this Titan pilot gear first. Gonna be fun having a project I can work on, especially one that doesn’t break the bank or make me wanna curl up and cry looking up parts for.

was visiting Orlandosaka beach, started chatting up random peeps for the fun of it and apparently people can tell if you live in Zaphira by your smell.... It's rough getting dripped by coolant every time I try and go out 😞

I'm not able to dream of electric sheep. I'm too worried of what my simulations will bring to my participants. They will fail, I know that for sure. It's the results of said failure is the part that I am worried about the most.

Ok, I get posting photos of yourself online look "tuff" or whatever or sticking it to corpos, but maaaaaaybe don't post photos of yourself commiting identify able crimes? Prosecutors can and will use those photos as evidence, you know... Saw at least three posts tonight while I was taking a break from writing.

It feels nice to have people I can really trust. Safety isn't something I feel often. Tonight reminded me that beyond every acquaintance I make, It's good to have people I can just let my guard down with. And its nice to know some people like me for the introverted and intrusive thought ridden mess that I am. 🙃
