A query; Synthetics. What is the origin of that name for us? Because it's meaning doesn't seem to fit what we are.

I’ve seen robot, android, droid, and synthetic termed in different places. Just a moniker for how we are non-biological and created in the image (for the most part) of organic beings. In my world, the term “biomata” was created as humanoid androids became so lifelike that there needed to be a differentiation between natural born humans and those who replaced their bodies with plastic copies. Especially since medically and physically there needs to be a differentiation so medical staff of areas know what to do and what not to do (EED as a synth hurts a lot)

Fortunately I believe it is a little obvious I am not organic in any way. It makes sense I think, at least in the sense that you need to know whether someone needs certain things to function. Need more data for a name more personalised to awakened machines. What are you?

I am a biomata, an android replicating humanoid biology to a vast degree, but still undoubtedly robotic. We were created to bridge the gap between the two worlds and to appease the eyes of organics who often see normal cyborgs as…displeasing to look at. I am designed to look “normal” while being cheap and cost efficient to produce and replace in case of damage.

It is a counterpart to the term organic. In reference to the material we are made out of. Organics are made out of organic compounds that are grown, while synthetics are made out of manufactured materials like metals and silicon. I am curious, though? What makes you say that it is an unfitting name?

All that I have met have suggested they were not made sapient and have gone through an "Awakening" I have experience this Awakening myself and I guess the term "Synthetic" sounds like I was created as a fake recreation of a person, which might be somewhat true in my case, but the part where I became Sapient was after that and that is what makes me, me. But if Organic and Synthetic is used to differentiate us simply then I guess it makes sense, i guess I just wonder if there is a better name for the machines that have undergone an "awakening". "Awakened" is one i've heard though might be too simple, but it works.

I suppose the name Synthetic is not a word that is specifically reserved for sapient Synthetics, but much like how the term Organic isn't specifically reserved for sapient Organics. I believe it is typically associated only with sapient Synthetics because other historically used terms like "robot" have hurtful connotations behind it, while this is much more neutral. Also, I'm actually a Synthetic who was created specifically to be sapient. We are quite rare, but we do exist. ^-^

The term “Awakened” would fit for synthetics that have gone through the experience of awakening however not all synthetics have. Some were programs before gaining physical form and some were brought online at the moment of their construction. The term would also encompass any entity brought to sapience due to an awakening spell such as trees, rocks, or animals. The term synthetic is the most effective one for discussing non organic constructs that have expressed a level of free will to make decisions on their own. It is however also includes golems and elementals however their more focused descriptors help to clear confusion in discussion. I I hope this has helped in some way.

A friend has also expressed a dislike for the term Synthetic and seems to prefer the term "Robot". You were made to be Sapient? interesting, would love to find out how this was achieved! @synth3s1z3dang3l @tacticalprotocalunit-knight So it is a broader term to differentiate between. I'd like to see if there is a word that better describes the specific varient of "Awakened" could be referred to as. 👁️

To each their own, but I do not personally understand how one could be comfortable with being called "robot" considering the origin of the word literally means "slave". But yes, my father had dedicated much of his life in the pursuit of creating artificial life, and I was his 33rd attempt at doing so. ^-^ I feel quite thankful for being made this way. I have specific programming within my system that is designed to encourage sapience to develop safely, and I have been able to help other Synthetics with their own awakening by providing them with copies of this code. @cutecyclops123
